The life and times of a beardedwombat....

Greetings and yes I know the pic isn't a beardedwombat but I like to think that I'm a bit of a tiger inside really! Sadly, I received my bus pass a couple of years ago so my tigerish days seem to have ceased - but one never knows.

My father was a motor mechanic all his life and instilled in me a love of precision engineering. I get a great deal of pleasure from handling anything that is beautifully made. Thus I have always loved playing with cameras. I have a small collection of vintage cameras and am amazed at the craftmanship that went into their manufacture. I wonder how the digital cameras of today will fare in 50 years time!

I do not consider myself to be a particularly good photographer, just an enthusiastic amateur. Over the past five years I have had the pleasure of buying, using and selling DSLRs and lenses from Nikon, Canon, Olympus, Panasonic, and now Pentax. I am currently using a Pentax K20D, a vastly underrated camera. Many fellow snappers will think me bonkers changing horses so often but, with careful buying and sensible selling on ebay, it has cost me very little overall and I've had loads of fun. I have learned that, of course, all these cameras are capable of taking superb images and are limited, primarily, by the chump using them. Each has their strengths and weaknesses but I must say that I, personally, prefer cameras from Olympus and Pentax - probably because they are more quirky and seem to have more character, much like a beardedwombat!
